My work is not only informed by my dance training and my experiences as a performer, but my work in a variety of community settings. My artistic perspective is informed by time farming, my work with teenagers and preschoolers, my time as a leader and supervisor and my time as a student in many forms. 

 

Community engagement work and creative movement have been leading interests of mine for the last ten years. In pursing further education, it is important for me to gain a more complex understanding of the individual and social implications of Community Dance. At Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance I sharpened my focus on my growth as a dancer and choreographer while I building upon my previous knowledge, and teaching and facilitation skills.

 

My interest in community-focused dance is greatly influenced by companies including Liz Lerman Dance Exchange and Urban Bush Women. Both companies emphasize the importance of working with non-traditional dancers, working in non-traditional settings, and committing to storytelling and social commentary relevant to the communities in which the dances are crafted.

 

I am inspired by dance as a means of creative expression, available to all bodies and witnesses. I am interested in utilizing dance as a tool for social justice. I aim to work with diverse movers to create community-based dance. I am committed to building creative spaces that offer the possibility of transformation stemming from honoring individuality, culture and collaboration.
